He focuses on internal medicine, especially metabolic/endocrine diseases, and nutrition of which he did research, taught, and published on for decades. One of his early research accomplishments was validating the use of hemoglobin A1c measurements to evaluate diabetic dogs. Over the years he diagnosed and characterized several rare inherited metabolic diseases in dogs, cats, horses, cattle and mice.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Wood enjoys golf, and cycling with his wife Judy. They also are very fond of their two rescued Labrador Retriever mix dogs Abby and Walter, as well as catching up with their two adult sons John and Joseph.
