Dr. Philip A. Wood graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. In 2017, Dr. Wood retired from medical research and academics, and returned to his original passion for clinical practice. He continues to have special interest in metabolic diseases and genetics. One of his early research accomplishments was validating the use of hemoglobin A1C measurements to evaluate diabetic dogs. Over the years he diagnosed and characterized several rare inherited metabolic diseases in dogs, cats, horses, cattle and mice.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Wood enjoys cycling with his wife Judy. They also enjoy their two rescued Labrador Retrievers Luke and Abby, as well as catching up with their two adult sons John and Joseph.
